HEREWEAR builds on project results and findings to propose policy recommendations for a sustainable bio-based, local and circular textile sector in Europe.
The recommendations are based on the HEREWEAR vision for a sustainable European textile and clothing sector that focuses on three pillars:
- Bio-based textiles as an integrated and positive element of the environment
- Local production models that build on a relational and community dimension and link agricultural and forestry practice directly to destination industries
- Circular design and practices to reduce waste, extend product life, and facilitate recycling at end of life
The policy recommendations address:
- Understanding the sector and market
- Fostering a holistic approach for bio-based textiles by aligning policies
- Developing and implementing a coherent and fair legislative framework
- Developing a holistic local approach
- The impact of Green Public Procurement
- Tips for communication and awareness.
